    Safe Outdoor Venues Discussion

    Thursday, January 21st

    10:00 - 11:00 am

The Vermont Recreation & Parks Association (VRPA) and the Vermont Arts Council have teamed up with several artists to organize a Zoom meeting on January 21st to discuss the ongoing challenges the Covid-19 pandemic has created, as well as to discuss safe outdoor venues for the summer 2021 season.

Our goals for this meeting is to bring together artists & performers from around the region to provide introductions and discuss the following topics:

    • Safe Outdoor Venue
    • How artists & host facilities are thinking about adapting spring/summer/fall plans for COVID realities
    • discuss what kind of help artists/creative people have wanted and not yet gotten (in the way of facilitating their work being out in the public)
    • Brainstorm how artists may more easily stay in touch with town Parks & Recreation departments, as well as state park facilities (or other entities such as fairgrounds) to hold productive and possibly economically boosting events
    • VT State guidelines for outdoor venues in 2021

    Playground Maintenance Training Course (PMT)

    Monday, February 1 - Friday, February 12th, 2021

    Virtual

The PMT training program is the most comprehensive, long-standing maintenance and inspection training program for playgrounds in the country. It teaches systems, process, and best practices in proactive maintenance to prevent incidents and minimize liability.

The Playground Maintenance Technician training program is designed for front-line, “boots-on-the-ground” staff and their supervisors who are responsible for regular, hands-on inspection and maintenance of playground equipment. PMT focuses on practical, real-world application of common playground inspection, maintenance and corrective action practices.

Over the course of two weeks, the participants will go through the virtual course together. There will be three live webinars and 13 e-courses with the following format:

    Week 1

Monday: 1st live webinar, 2:00-3:00 pm

Tuesday-Thursday: participants complete the first 3 e-courses on their own

Friday: 2nd live webinar, 2:00-3:00 pm

    Week 2

Monday-Thursday: participants complete the remaining 10 e-courses & participate in the “Virtual Playground” conclusion.

Friday: 3rd live webinar, 2:00-3:00 pm

The webinars are intended to provide opportunities to review and reinforce the concepts covered in the e-courses. It also gives an opportunity for participants to ask the instructor questions and share knowledge and experience with each other. The second webinar will include a designated Q&A with a panel of PMT instructors. During the third and final webinar there will be  a group discussion about playground maintenance during coronavirus.

Each participant receives the nearly 250 page textbook and a course workbook that is theirs to keep after the training.
