In 2010, the Vermont Recreation and Parks Association re-introduced the annual Maintenance Workshop. We were happy to bring back this workshop designed specifically for the men and women who maintain our parks and recreation facilities. The Maintenance Workshop was held at Middlebury College. The schedule included a full morning of small group site visits to a variety of indoor and outdoor athletic and recreation facilities available at Middlebury College. After lunch, delegates chose three of six available roundtable discussions about specific maintenance topics. The delegate evaluations confirmed that this event provided a good opportunity to network with volunteer counterparts from around the state about issues you face in the maintenance end of parks and recreation services in your community.
In 2011, VRPA began working with the New Hampshire Recreation and Parks Association (NHRPA) and the New England Sports Turf Managers Association (NESTMA) to host a VT/NH Maintenance Workshop.We plan to host this event every other year, alternating years with a Board Members Workshop.
In 2013, the VT/NH Maintenance Workshop will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2013. The location will be the brand new CSB Community Center in Claremont, NH which will give us all a chance to tour their new facility and learn about the process of planning and constructing a recreation facility...in addition to lots of other turf and facility management issues. The schedule will include field demonstrations, vendors and equipment demos, a facility tour, and a variety of roundtable discussions...participants choose the three most relevant to them.
